cycle of ceremony and religion. Form daily household rituals to
twice-monthly moon ceremonies the Balinese Saka calendar revolves
around the Hindu religion. Rural life is focussed on the village
temples where grand celebrations are held at regular birthday
intervals. Religious beliefs, rites and festivals guide a Balinese
from the birth to death and into the world thereafter.
The
spectacular landscapes of Bali provide a verdant backdrop to its
remarkable culture. Like a massive sculpture the volcanic scenery
has been carved and sculpted by hand into majestic rice terraces,
like giant green step tripping down the hillsides.
